The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa), Marcos Montes, said this Tuesday (7th) that technological innovation is essential to guarantee food security and sustainability in agricultural production.
In a lecture during the One Agro event, in Campinas (SP), he said that Brazil can provide positive answers to guarantee food supply needed all over the world.
According to him, the ministry currently works with three main axes: food security, sustainability and innovation.
Innovation is the thread
“These three axes make me sure that we are going to give this answer to the world. Technology is the thread that links food safety and sustainability. If hadn’t this progress that we have, we probably wouldn’t be so confident that we’re going to move forward,” said Montes.
World Crop Plan
At the event, the minister also said that the “Plano Safra 2022/2023” (the Brazilian annual plan for financing agriculture and livestock is litarelly translated as Crop Plan) should be quite robust.
“It is not just another Brazilian Crop Plan, it is a World Crop Plan, because the whole world needs this consistent and robust plan”.
The guidelines of the current Safra Plan are being prepared by Mapa, together with the Ministry of Economy and the Central Bank. The document defines the amount of resources that will be allocated with equalized interest to support national agricultural production.
