Partnership to enable ag professionals on biological control

The University of São Paulo and CropLife announced a course on biological control techniques for any agricultural professionals, included without agronomist background. Registrations are open until September 28th.

Biological inputs and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) usage favors sustainable agriculture goals due to its low toxicity and high production efficiency.

As consequence, Brazilian market for biologicals grew 35% in 2020, reaching US$ 825 million, according to the consultancy IHS Markit.

“From this data, we understand the importance and magnitude of sharing knowledge on that subject. That’s why we joined USP/ESALQ to provide this rich content”, comments Christian Lohbauer, Executive President at CropLife Brasil.

For him, the training “will enhance the understanding of biological pest control and offer expertise that will give relevant advantages in the market to these students”.

Biological control

Croplife explains the course comprises seven modules, covering different topics, such as parasitoids and predators; predatory mites and creation of natural enemies; in addition to biological pest control programs and Brazilian legislation.

“The content was designed for those who develop, apply and disseminate biological control, and is aimed at professionals and students interested in the subject”, comments Pedro Takao Yamamoto, coordinator of the postgraduate course in Entomology at ESALQ/USP, responsible for designing the course. .

With registration open until the 28th, the initiative does not require previous graduation. In online and live format, classes will take place once a week and students will be able to access the recordings. The start will be on 10/05/2022, lasting four months.
