Project offers BRL 30,000 for responsible soy production in Mato Grosso

Small and medium soy producers in Mato Grosso have a unique opportunity to adapt their properties to the best socio-environmental practices and even obtain international certification for trading.

Producers will benefit from an international partnership involving the Mato Grosso state government through the PCI Institute and six main global soy traders (ADM, Bunge, Cargill, COFCO International, Viterra and Louis Dreyfus Company), which aims to expand responsible soy production in the region.

Over the next few weeks, the NGO “Produzindo Certo” will register properties to participate in the program specifically designed to help them in this direction. Participation in the project is free of charge and even includes financial assistance to carry out improvements on farms.

The project is coordinated by Aliança da Terra, an organization that develops projects to help protect the environment in harmony with agricultural and livestock production.

Around 40 properties are already participating at the pilot phase, which began at the end of 2020, in Campos de Júlio and Planalto da Serra. The goal now is to select another 120 properties dedicated to soy production all over the state.

Approximately R$ 1.3 million is available for investment. Each registered farm can receive up to R$ 30,000. “The idea is that for every real invested by the producer in improvements, the project brings in another real”, says Caroline Nóbrega, general manager of Aliança da Terra.

Technical support

There are many advantages for producers, such as having a real diagnosis of socio-environmental situation of properties and free technical assistance.

“The farm will become part of the Produzindo Certo Platform at no cost”, highlights Charton Locks, COO of Produzindo Certo.

When registering on the platform, properties will be evaluated by the Produzindo Certo team remotely and via face-to-face visit. This assessment will generate a socio-environmental diagnosis of the farm.

Then, also free of charge, company technicians will prepare, together with the owner, an action plan to implement improvements, in alignment with producer’s resources.
